3 key steps to tackle the stress in your life

Posted

Life can sometimes be overwhelming with work, family and social responsibilities all competing for your time and attention. We can feel like no matter how much we put into our commitments, it never seems like it’s enough. We’re constantly worried about everything we have to do, and as a result we become less efficient and productive. When this happens, our energy starts to drain and this can take a toll on both our body and mind. The following information will show you some simple and straightforward steps that you can take to prevent getting to the point of feeling utterly exhausted.

Step 1: IDENTIFY

The first action to take to help manage and reduce your stress and its related symptoms is to identify stress inducing situations and problems as early as possible.

Step 2: TAKE RESPONSIBILITY

Look closely at your attitudes, habits and excuses in reaction to the stressful problem:

  • Do you excuse your stress as a temporary thing but then can’t remember the last time you had break or a breather?
  • Do you believe that stress is enmeshed within your everyday life? Have you perhaps normalized its existence?
  • Do you blame your stress on others or outside events?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, it’s important to remember you must accept the role you have taken in producing and sustaining your stress or else the stress will remain outside of your control.

Step 3: CHANGE THE SITUATION OR CHANGE YOUR REACTION

This step is essential; to learn how to manage and diminish any stress-related symptoms you must not fall victim to your stress. You need to take action and understand that you - and only you - have the power to change your stress-inducing circumstances. Learning to say "no" and set boundaries is key to putting the brakes on stress before it harms your mental or physical health.
